Title: Nova Cupiditas
Author:
lomonaaeren
Rating: R
Word Count: 119,300 Approx.
Summary: Nova cupiditas—the curse that makes the victim desire someone they hate. There is no cure, and the consequences grow increasingly violent the more the desire is denied. And now someone has cursed Draco Malfoy to desire Harry Potter.
Warning(s): Attempted rape, issues of consent, self-mutilation
One of the many things that make this story so fantastic, is the slow way in which Draco loses his mind. It happens very quickly, as in manner of days, but it's slow, the progression from lust to need to, what it seems, love and worship of Harry from Draco.
There are times when Draco is sure the curse is not in action and he's truly in love with Harry. And Harry, it's not that he is confused and ready to believe Draco, he knows better, he knows it's the curse talking, making Draco say and do and feel those things, but at the same time it's so seducing and tempting to have someone who wants you with such intensity and devotion. So Harry, too, is constantly warring with himself, because he wants to help Draco, and at times it seems that giving in, even a little bit, will help, but then he remember it's only ever the curse, and it's maddening. And yes, Harry starts having feelings for Draco, which doesn't help the predicament they're into at all!
And then, even you, as a reader, start (sort of) doubting if Draco really loves Harry or it's just the spell. At times it's obvious it is the spell, but at times, you're sure it's the real thing.
The plot takes several twists and turns along the way (many of which are dark and violent) so it's a long journey until both Harry and Draco can be sure that what they're feeling is real.
