Title: Defendere
Author:

Rating: NC 17
Word Count: 36,000
Summary: Harry stumbles into a magical ritual meant to enslave Draco, and manages to change the bond so that it leaves Draco with free will and the ability to make decisions even if he is bound to Harry. But that isn't much comfort when it also leaves him with the ability to irritate the hell out of Harry in the name of "guarding" him. (Provided by author.)
The thing about this story is that, the summary, though very much summarise the fic, doesn't make it justice.
This fic is amazing.
When I read this fic it was like getting to know Harry, being inside his head, knowing his insecurities, his fears. All those things he's dragged with him through the year, starting with his traumas from being "raised" by the Dursleys to dying alone on the forest.
What he thinks he's worth, what he thinks he deserves and doesn't. How hard he is on himself.
This is a bond fic, but it's unlike any bond fic I've ever read.
Draco IS bound to Harry, but not to serve him or to obey him, but rather Draco through this bond can give Harry exactly what he needs. Not just his physical needs (and there's that of course), but his emotional needs too. Through this bond Draco can understand Harry better than anyone, and he'd defend Harry above all things.
It's beautiful, watching Harry going through this with Draco. From Harry's reluctance towards Draco until the acceptance that Draco will be there for him no matter what.
But it's funny too, because Draco does irritate the hell out of him at times.
